A new Mission: Impossible 7 image gives the best look yet at Kittridge's return. Christoper McQuarrie has helped elevate and connect the Mission: Impossible franchise since taking the reins with the fifth installment. While the focus remains on Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt, the writer/director has filled out the spy franchise with plenty of other new characters. Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson) and Solomon Lane (Sean Harris) have taken big roles, but McQuarrie has also made sure to bring back multiple people with ties to past Mission: Impossible movies.
When it comes to Mission: Impossible 7's cast, McQuarrie has once again planned a good balance of new and returning characters. Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Cary Elwes, and Esai Morales are among the new, mysterious characters it will introduce. Mission: Impossible 7 will also bring back Hunt's usual team and Vanessa Kirby's White Widow, but the movie is slated to feature the return of an original Mission: Impossible cast member too. McQuarrie previously confirmed that Henry Czerny will appear as former IMF director Eugene Kittridge.
Throughout the filming process of Mission: Impossible 7 (and its sequel Mission: Impossible 8), McQuarrie has been quite active on social media. He's repeatedly shared new looks at the movie's cast, with several of these being how he revealed each of them joined the production. McQuarrie's latest post follows up on a tweet from a fan who expressed their excitement to see Kittridge return, so he shared a brand new look at Czerny's character in Mission: Impossible 7.

When Czerny returns as Kittridge in Mission: Impossible 7, it will have been more than two decades since he previously played the character. His absence from Mission: Impossible sequels already confirmed that Kittridge did not retain his position as IMF's leader, with multiple characters taking that role in subsequent films. But, it has not yet been revealed why McQuarrie decided to bring Kittridge back for this particular story. And since plot details on Mission: Impossible 7 are being tightly guarded, there are barely any clues about how he could factor into Ethan Hunt's next mission.
The new Mission: Impossible 7 image might not reveal anything new about Kittridge's return, but it is still exciting for fans to see Czerny back with the franchise. This is the second look at him in the movie McQuarrie has released, and both of them have been part of this train scene. Several set photos have teased a massive action scene on a train, so it is possible that Kittridge's return is tied to whatever fight breaks out. It is unconfirmed how big of a role Kittridge has in Mission: Impossible 7, but hopefully he'll be featured throughout.
